CCWA Heats Up at the Involvement Fair

CCWA Heats Up at the Involvement Fair

This past weekend, Ohio State hosted its Student Involvement Fair: hundreds of clubs of all shapes and varieties crowded the Oval in an attempt to attract new students, while staying moderately cool. CCWA was no different. Despite having a table that was placed in the shade, the array of members who came out to represent our club sweated and boiled in the 90+ degree heat. The fact that, in contrast to many other clubs, we had so many people at the table and in the surrounding area reflects a new approach to recruiting that CCWA is trying to implement this year.

Once you have been in CCWA for a while, you become aware that it’s not really your typical student org. Whether it be by intention (through our membership events) or by accident (as in accidentally realizing that most of your close friends are in this club) CCWA is one of the most social clubs on campus. We literally spend our fall breaks in a cabin in the woods with each other - not something I’ve heard many other clubs doing. But from the outside, CCWA can often be seen as quite intense and intimidating to join; something I heard about from a few different sources over the course of last year. So in recruiting this year, we decided to emphasize the community that we have created, and not just focus on all the incredible things that our members are doing.

So while, of course, we are still going to excel at our Model UN conferences, and publish a phenomenal magazine, and truly dive into actual issues facing the UN, we hope that you all get a feel for the astonishing community contained in this club.

Therefore, for any new members reading:

  1. That’s why our table seemed so packed with people who wanted to talk to you instead of just hand you a flyer,

  2. Welcome! We are so excited to have you here,

  3. Buckle up for a truly incredible experience!!!
