OSUMUN 2019

OSUMUN 2019

On the weekend of April 5, the Collegiate Council on World Affairs hosted its ninth annual high school Model United Nations conference. Nicknamed “OSUMUN,” this conference unifies the entirety of the club, as every member—and even non-members from across campus—helps eleven different committees come into reality. OSUMUN 2019 hosted over 250 students from across the United States, with students coming in from Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Tennessee. Students arrived wearing Union Jack suits and showing off their creative skills through different initiatives, like the development of yak-based commodities in the Kublai Khan Court committee. Nuclear bombs were launched and Nazi regimes overthrown.

We also debuted an OSUMUN t-shirt, for the first time in conference history, which proved an incredible success. In fact, they were such a success that even the Secretary-General did not have the opportunity to purchase one herself. Additionally, our members helped host the most entertaining high school dance that the third floor of the Ohio Union has ever seen. Dozens of teenagers booed the classic song “Hey Ya” and reworked “The Cupid Shuffle,” as they danced the night away with their chairs and crisis staffers. A special shoutout to Liz Webb, who helped put together a round of Jeopardy for the students later that evening.

After the conference ended, advisors filled the OSUMUN inbox with stellar reviews, commending our chairs and staffers for their professional, yet simultaneously fun-loving, demeanors towards this conference. However, if you think this was the best OSUMUN ever, do not worry. We are only just getting started. Who knows what OSUMUN 2020 will bring to the table?
